چکیده

At HERA energies photoproduction of jets is sensitive to very high parton densities and so the probability of more than one hard partonic scattering occurring in a single photon-proton collision may be signiicant. This eeect has been simulated using an eikonal prescription for the generation of the hard processes and the HERWIG parton showering and hadronization models. The rst results on simulated jet cross sections indicate that the eeect could be important when interpreting measurements of jet cross sections at HERA, and that the presence of a signiicant amount of multiple hard interactions could be directly connrmed by experiment.

An eikonal model for multiparticle production in hadron - hadron interactions

We introduce an eikonal Monte Carlo model (running in conjunction with HERWIG) for simulating multiparticle production in hadron-hadron interactions. We compare our simulated data to the CDF Tevatron measurement of the underlying event activity in hard inelastic proton-antiproton scattering at √ s=1.8 TeV. By fixing the only free parameter in our model, the total hadron-hadron cross section , w...

Simulation of multiple partonic interactions in Herwig++

In this paper we describe a new model of multiple partonic interactions that has been implemented in Herwig++. Tuning its two free parameters we find a good description of CDF underlying event data. We show extrapolations to the LHC.

With the advent of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the near future it will become increasingly important to gain a detailed understanding of all sources of hadronic activity in a high energy scattering event. An important source of additional soft jets will be the presence of the underlying event. From the experimental point of view, the underlying event contains all activity in a hadronic c...

Soft interactions in Herwig++

We describe the recent developments to extend the multi-parton interaction model of underlying events in Herwig++ into the soft, nonperturbative, regime. This allows the program to describe also minimum bias collisions in which there is no hard interaction, for the first time. It is publicly available from versions 2.3 onwards and describes the Tevatron underlying event and minimum bias data. T...
